I came up with this thing called “Sad Bastard Music” about three years ago when I was looking for a catchy phrase that describes my favorite kind of music. Now, Sad Bastard Music is a fair-and-balanced, humble little powerhouse of a radio show on KZSC.
But I recently got to thinking that there’s more to “Sad Bastard Music” than meets the ears. I kinda see SBM as a way of life - adding a sense of emotionality to all things, experiencing regular catharsis through music and contemplation. It’s intense and exhausting but I think it works.
The thesis: In the coming months, Sad Bastard Music is going to become something of a “record label.” One that releases free downloads, most of which have roots in my radio show. But the radio show may not be around for too much longer, and I think Sad Bastard Music is ready to graduate. The goal will always be to seek an audience for some incredibly talented musicians, and bridge the gap between “music” and “listener” so that you can love these songs on just as personal a level as I do.
